Address and Parking

601 E Bridge St, Elkader IA 52043. The parking spaces are located on the front left side if you are facing the front of the building. There is a handicapped spot, otherwise there are no reserved parking spaces.

First aid kit and fire extinguishers

The first aid kit is in the kitchen cupboards located to your immediate left when entering the room. The fire extinguishers are in the kitchen under the sink.

Sleeping

Due to the fact that we usually have multiple guests enjoying the Jail House at the same time we ask that you observe quite hours between 10pm and 7am to be respectful of other guests. To find each suite...
Master Suite: The only suite on the first floor. Enter through the front door and the master suite is the first door on the left.
Emma Big Bear Suite: Emma Big Bear is the only suite with two linked bedrooms. Go up the stairs and the first door to the Emma Suite is on your right. The door to the second room is on the other end of the hallway and it will be on your left. The bathroom for the Emma Big Bear Suite is across the hall from the first door, right by the top of the stairs.
Harstad Suite: The Harstad Suite is in the attic and the only suite on the third floor. Go up the first flight of stairs, turn around and go towards the balcony doors. Take a left at the end of the hallway to find the stairs to the Harstad Suite.
Entire Jail House: If you have rented the entire Jail House Inn enjoy 3 authentic jail cots and 2 sets of bund beds in the cell block for additional sleeping for 7 more inmates! There is no pampering in these beds, enjoy the authentic experience.
The door codes for each suite will be in your confirmation email.

Common Areas

The common spaces in the Jail House are what set it apart from any other "airbnb" type experience. Enjoy the second floor balcony, the patio off the kitchen, the unique cell block and the gourmet kitchen all as part of your amenities. We just ask that you treat our home like you would treat your home and clean up after yourselves so all of our guests can have a comfortable stay in Jail.

Early check in, late departure requests

Check in is at 3 PM.
Before you arrive in town, we need to ensure our previous guests have checked out, that the maid service and maintenance has been through the unit, and that linens and towels are fresh and ready for your visit. All this takes time and needs to be done before you check in.  Due to this tight timeframe, we do not allow early check ins or late departures.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Check out instructions

Please be sure to check out by 11am as our cleaning crew will be arriving shortly after to prepare for our next inmate. Here is a short list of items to ensure a smooth checkout process.
 Please place all used towels and linens on the floor in the bedroom.
 Wash and replace all dirty dishes. If you are short on time, please place dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start a wash cycle before you leave.
 Please dispose of any food/drinks in the trash and close the bag. Our cleaners will dispose of the trash bags. For longer stays you can bring the trash out to the garbage bins.
 Close any open windows.
 Turn off any lights. 
 Upon your check out please be reminded of all your belongings (chargers, valuables, etc.). In case you left it or might have misplaced it, please let us know as soon as possible so we can give instructions to our cleaners.
